Reflective Journal
I want to start off by saying that I have a major respect for the work that animators (2D, 3D, and every other style in between) do. Many hours go into creating animated TV shows, short films and movies. Typically more than one person works on those projects, but it still takes a lot of time and patience to complete them. For this project, I worked solo and the goal was to create a 30 second animation clip in the animation style of my choice. I decided to go with the rotoscope style because I thought it would be the easiest and since I have a tablet style laptop + a stylus, I could work on the project as long as I had them with me. But no project ever comes that easy and my challenge was learning how to work with a video file in the Photoshop application. Thankfully, Professor Gatlin has helpful tutorial videos and tips available on the class site, without them I would not have been able to figure out how to create an animation clip or even complete this project. Although 30 seconds may sound like a short amount of time, I spent at least a couple of hours per day over the span of a week working on my animation. Why did it take this long you may be wondering? Each frame per second consisted of 10 drawings. When you do the math, 10 frames per second for 30 seconds comes up to 300 drawings in total. That's a lot of drawing for one person! This project was definitely tedious to work on, but proved to be rewarding when it was completed. I went with a very simple drawing style but I am still proud of the final product. Through this project I learned some new technological skills and could definitely see myself creating a new animation in the future.
